The Problem
The fashion industry is one of the largest contributors to the global climate and ecological crisis because textile production produces approximately 1.2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually, and that is more than those of all international flights and maritime shipping combined. If fashion were a country, it would be the 4th largest CO2 emitter in the world that is effectively undermining global efforts to address climate change (EAC, Fixing Fashion).
For example, the production of 1 t-shirt made of regular cotton uses 2700 liters of water and generates 7kg of CO2. Jeans, on the other hand, have many times larger impact. 1 in 2 people are throwing their unwanted clothes straight in the trash but 95% of these items could be reused or recycled (ThreadUp, Reseale Report).
But there is a better way - buy less, choose well, rewear, repair, donate or resell, recycle, etc. We believe that fashion can be done in the right way.
Take a note - by keeping a garment in use just 9 extra months can reduce the carbon footprint by 27%, water footprint by 33% and waste footprint by 22% of waste!
"Good design is sustainable design"
Always remember there are human beings behind the garments that we buy. Fast fashion isn't free - someone, somewhere is paying. Sustainable fashion is made with extra care to protect the environment (nature, people, animals and health). Become a sustainable shopper and support the movement towards a clean, safe, fair, transparent and accountable fashion industry.
Sustainable fashion
The Sustainable Fashion Forum has defined it: "Sustainable fashion is the umbrella that encompasses the environmental, social and ethical production and consumption of clothing. The complete lifespan of a garment from its initial design to end-of-life options are considered in order for a garment to be considered sustainable." But for us, that's a common sense and means a lot more than doing a business in the right way - its about creating a better and happier life for all. We believe that healing is our responsibility to ensure that there is a good life for future generations and urge everyone to find ways how to live a sustainable lifestyle. Efforts to green this polluting industry require actions from both, businesses and consumers.
